Sarah Jane Freeman-Judd has created a simply stunning Bed and Breakfast Tiny Home in Peka Peka, Kapiti Coast. For people looking to explore Tiny Home living or just wanting to escape and recharge their batteries this Tiny Home and location is just the place.
Sarah decided to build the Tiny Home and create a BNB business opportunity that would help her be more financially independant.
“I love the idea of building an income while also providing a beautiful place for people to come and stay” Sarah tells us.
“Sadly my husband Alan passed away recently and I wanted to do something which has the potential of helping me to become financially independant, Alan and I have had businesses in the past and I really liked the idea of a Tiny Home BNB, so I just went for it”
Sarah’s Tiny Home was initially built by NZ Tiny homes in New Plymouth, but Sarah also used a number of local Kapiti based businesses to help setup her BNB.
“I did have some issues with NZ Tiny Homes, so would suggest to anyone looking to use them to stay on top of your project and make sure things are delivered to the standard you want and to the timeframes agreed upon”
Sarah has styled the property beautifully with art works from local artists featuring both inside and out.
About the location
Peka Peka beach is arguably the most beautiful beach in the greater Wellington region with miles of sand, an ‘uncrowded’ safe swimming beach with stunning views of Kapiti Island.
What was the cost of your Tiny Home BNB?
The initial cost of the Tiny Home was $124,000 but I spent an extra $25,000 for additional items as well.
How long did it take to build your Tiny Home?
Five months to build the Tiny Home then another 4 months to get if up and running as I wanted it.
What tips can you give other Tiny Home owners?
Make sure you get what you want and do regular site visits. Followup on finishing and make sure the quality is what you expect. My builders were very busy and had at least six Tiny Home builds on the go. so keeping a check on your build was important. In hindsight I should have asked for progress photos.

The Tiny Home includes Shower and laundry facilities, washer/ dryer.
Equipment includes a all new smart tv, free wifi and Bluetooth speaker expansive decking in private courtyard with shelter area with bbq for outdoor cooking.
Large shade umbrella for the hot days. Beach is only 50 metres away and safe for swimming fishing and picnics. We have a lot of fabulous restaurants and cafes only 4k away at Waikanae Beach and shopping in Waikanae the same distance. Please come and enjoy our wonderful lifestyle.
