The Ark - a life changer
Ark Designs is New Zealand operated and owned, built to New Zealand Building Code Standards. With our Multi-proof certificate, we are certified to build nationwide.
The Ark is a 28.8 sqm (34.8 sqm including loft space) alternative to tiny house living. Built on and attached to pontoons, this allow for easy assembly without needing specific engineered foundations to suit your site. These pontoons act as water tanks, allowing the potential to be completely self-contained.
OUR CABINS
Our Cabins are a combination of pre-fabricated elements and raw materials; hand crafted onsite by our team nationwide. Perfect for owners happy to add their own finishing touches.
Building onsite allows this Tiny Home to have a wider berth, at 4.8m wide and 6m long.
The building process will take approximately 2-3 weeks, weather dependant. Each Ark is built to NZ Building Code Standards, by our small but skilled team.
Building on pontoons allows us to speed up the building process, as each Ark does not need site specific foundations. These pontoons also act as water storage, which is connected to the facilities in the bathroom and kitchen area.

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY - COTTLE HILL CREEK
The Ark at Cottle Hill Creek is just 5 minutes from Kerikeri village and just over 3 hours drive from Auckland. With just a short drive to many of the Bay of Island and Northland sights - it's a great spot to explore this stunning region from.
The Ark is a unique and beautifully decorated, floating houseboat. It sits peacefully in a corner of a small private lake on a 16-acre farmlet complete with goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, pigs and horses. The Ark is docked alongside a wharf where a nearby willow tree provides a cool outdoor living space - and a tranquil place to BBQ, sunbathe, read, relax, or enjoy a cool drink on a hot day.
Inside is a small but perfectly formed space with a luxurious open plan and well-equipped kitchen, dining, and lounge area, and bathroom. An incredibly comfortable queen size bed is accessed via a ladder in the loft. A small woodburner is lovely to cosy up in front of during winter.
The Ark is a beautiful and unique accommodation experience. It's off-grid, self-sustainable and provides an escape from the stresses of the city.
Row or kayak on the lake, take a walk around the property, bird watch, or say hello to the animals. Enjoy listening to the sound of the kiwi that have recently moved into the area.
During open fire season, guests are welcome to collect wood and build a fire in the pit outside the Ark. Pioneer cast iron cookware is provided to enjoy a unique outdoor fire cooking experience.
There is an array of birdlife to enjoy! Sometimes you can spot wild turkeys, peacocks, quail, and pheasants around. There are also many beautiful native birds such as fantails, tui, and kererus to be seen.
