Built for a view

The little big tiny house company - The Viewfinder

Viewfinder main.jpg

Stefan from the little big house company chats to us about this build.

“This Tiny house (the Viewfinder model) was to provide glamping accommodation at the back of their farm, with views over native bush out to the coast. We met the client at Fieldays and were pretty excited to find us as the Viewfinder was made for this view.

They wanted to make it a little longer (8.4m vs the standard 7.2m) to allow for room for a wardrobe and a little more room in the lounge/kitchen area.

Also, due to the location, this was a fully offgrid set-up with solar and its own septic tank.”

What was the original budget for the build?

The budget was 85,000

Describe the process and challenges, solutions found during the build?

Location was the big issue with this one, There wasn’t a suitable road across the farm, so a Tractor had to tow it across the paddocks. Aside from the Hiab truck getting stuck, things went pretty smoothly.

How long did the build actually take and why?

This one took approx. 10 weeks. It was only the second of the Viewfinders we had made, so there were still a lot of things to learn.

What are this Tiny Home’s Specifications?

Structure. Sits on a galvanised steel sub floor and trailer. Walls and roof are made from Structurally insulated panels (SIPs)

Cladding - Cladding is sustainably logged NZ Beech in a vertical shiplap profile.
The rear cladding is the same as the roof – 7 rib coloursteel

Interior - Interior is our signature plywood with negative detail. We believe that rather than hiding joins in the plywood, it is better to make a feature of it. The plywood has been whitewashed and sealed with a satin polyurethane.

The flooring is Godfrey Hirst waterproof planks

What was the final price of the Tiny Home?

The final price was as budgeted, $85,000
